19th Someries Scout Group

Be Prepared

In March the Scouts competed at the District swimming competition and did exceptionally well against the other groups.

In April the Scouts marched through Luton Town Centre with the other groups in the District on St. Georges day to re-affirm their promise to God and to the Queen.

Every year the Scout group support the Rotary Club by taking part in the charity walk and last year was no exception, despite the rain. The fund raising event in May gets the boys walking around Luton and the surrounding villages and includes stopping for a picnic lunch and a few games half-way around.

In July the District put on a beach party for the Scouts at Bath Road pools. This consisted of some free-time in the pool using the dive boards and inflatable’s followed by lunch and games.

The Scouts also organised a summer party for the end of term for all 3 sections and parents where tropical cocktails were served, games were played and a knobbly-knee competition was held for the parents!

The Luton Sea Scouts kindly put on an activity weekend in October at the Luton Hoo Estate for Scouts to complete their ‘basic nautical skills’ badge and 2 Scouts from 19th Someries took part and completed the course.

As this was the centenary year for Scouts, there were 4 limited edition badges available to earn. They were ‘Join-in-centenary’, ‘Centenary camp’, ‘Scouting’s sunrise’ and ‘Bring a friend’ and opportunities were given throughout the year for the Scouts to earn these badges.

This term the Scouts will be working towards their mechanics and still photography badge, followed by the athletics badge in the summer term. The Scouts will also be completing an incident hike which is going to be planned and run by the Executive Committee.
