19th Someries Scout Group

Be Prepared

On Saturday 18th September, the 19th Someries Scout Group celebrated their 70th Birthday with a bar-be-que.  Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Leaders from past and present gathered to look at displays, photographs, old uniforms and to celebrate this wonderful achievement of a local scouting group.  Even though it rained, a good time was had by all that attended.

In the lead up to celebrate the mile stone, the group wanted to help the local community by doing local projects.

They started by digging and planting wild flowers at the local school’s wild area.  The boys paved the pond area making it safe for classes, cleaned up the rubbish and put in a seating area.

At the local children’s’ hospice Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and leaders  cleared, weeded and planted in their garden, helping to keep it a peaceful and a calm area.

A cross section of the boys went to the local elderly home, where they served tea and had a games evening.

The final item of contribution will be to a local special needs school, where the group will donate plants for their sensory garden.

To help finance these adventures, the boys went to a local supermarket to help customers pack their bags.  The boys also took par in The Rotary Club Charity Walk, raising money by walking 6 miles – 18 miles, dependant on age.

The Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Leaders and the Executive Committee would like to thank everyone who have contributed and helped in making this a very special year for the 19th Someries Scout Group.
